The Story behind the Christmas Carol - Silent Night

It is widely accepted that Fr. Joseph Mohr had written the words to the song in 1816 in the village of Mariapfarr, Austria. In 1818, Silent Night was first performed on Christmas Eve in St. Nicholas Church in Oberndorf, Austria. Legend has it that the church organ was damaged, leading to the creation of this simple yet profound melody. In need of a song for Christmas Mass, Fr. Mohr requested a school teacher named, Franz Xaver Gruber to compose the music to his song. The rest is history.
